Description

During the final decade of the XIXth century, Spain lived an increasingly grave crisis which reached its climax with the Spanish-American war (1898), effectively the result of American intervention in the ongoing Cuban War of Independence.

The result was the Treaty of Paris, negotiated on terms favorable to the U.S., which allowed temporary American control of Cuba and, following their purchase from Spain, indefinite colonial authority over Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. The defeat and collapse of the Spanish Empire was a profound shock to Spain's national psyche and provoked a thoroughgoing philosophical and artistic reevaluation of Spanish society known as the Generation of '98.

TL;DR 1898 + Spain vs. America, Cuba & Philippines = disaster.
With this particular depiction of our beloved Antonio, Alfred and (Cuba has a human name? If he does, I forgot), I wanted to bring the spotlight to this conflict, which meant a huge change in Spanish mentality, and deeply affected the society of the moment. Kickass educational, ain't it?
I'm thinking about making it into comic trips. All the war. But I'd need patience, which is something 've got in a very tiny amount, so... we'll see.
Again, tl;dr.

By the way, that ship behind them is the Maine, which exploded in Havana, thus giving the Americans the chance to blame Spain for the accident it truly was and declare war. Just fyi.

I would love to see comic strips about this if it's in Spain's point of view. I recently learned about this war, but it was mostly on why America fought and what we got out of it. We didn't go over much on how Spain was affected, so that'd be cool to learn.
